Recommended Molding Equipment by Rubber Material

2026-09-21

1. Natural Rubber (NR)

Depending on product complexity and production volume, natural rubber can be processed using a variety of molding methods.

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine — suitable for high-volume production requiring stable quality and high efficiency, such as automotive bushings and seals.
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine — recommended for thicker parts or products with higher quality requirements, where internal trapped air must be minimized.
  • Traditional Compression Molding Machine — suitable for small-batch production and simple rubber products.

2. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer Rubber (EPDM)

EPDM rubber is widely used in automotive sealing strips, gaskets, and electrical insulation components.

Recommended equipment includes:

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine — suitable for high-volume, precision-grade products.
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine — suitable for products that require excellent surface finish with minimal air bubbles.

3. NBR Rubber

Since NBR is commonly used for oil seals and O-rings that require extremely high dimensional accuracy, the preferred equipment is:

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine

For thicker industrial sealing products:

  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine

4. HNBR Rubber

HNBR compounds typically require higher processing temperatures and tighter process control.

Recommended:

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine equipped with precision temperature control.
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine for manufacturing high-performance seals.

5. FKM (Fluoroelastomer)

FKM is a premium material that requires precise temperature control and stable injection pressure.

Recommended:

  • High-Precision Rubber Injection Molding Machine
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine for high-value sealing products.

6. VMQ (Silicone Rubber)

Silicone rubber requires precise temperature control and excellent mold-filling performance.

Recommended:

  • Liquid or Solid Rubber Injection Molding Machine (depending on the type of silicone rubber).
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine for medical- and food-grade silicone products, which minimizes trapped air.

7. CR (Chloroprene Rubber)

CR rubber is suitable for:

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine
  • Transfer Molding Machine

The specific choice depends on production volume and product complexity.

8. SBR (Styrene-Butadiene Rubber)

SBR is mainly used for cost-sensitive products.

Recommended:

  • Transfer Molding Machine — suitable for large, simple parts; economical.
  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine — suitable for automated, high-volume production.

9. IIR (Butyl Rubber)

Because IIR offers outstanding air-tightness, it is typically molded using the following equipment:

  • Rubber Injection Molding Machine
  • Vacuum Compression Molding Machine — for products that require a bubble-free surface.

10. PU Elastomer

PU elastomers are typically processed using dedicated polyurethane casting or injection equipment rather than traditional rubber molding machines. Therefore, unless a machine is specifically designed for polyurethane processing, standard rubber injection molding machines are generally not recommended for PU processing.

Conclusion

No single rubber material is suitable for every application. Natural rubber offers outstanding elasticity, NBR excels in oil resistance, EPDM performs well in outdoor environments, silicone rubber is ideal for food and medical applications, and FKM performs exceptionally well in extreme temperatures and harsh chemical environments.

Understanding the characteristics of each rubber material helps manufacturers choose the most suitable material and optimize their molding process. Combining reliable rubber injection molding equipment and well-designed molds with the right material choice can significantly improve product quality, production efficiency, and long-term manufacturing success.
